Getting Started on Sites: How do I remove the "authoring information" on my page?

By default, Drupal displays author and date for each node (e.g. "Submitted by Caryl J Westerberg on October 17, 2013 - 8:43 am").  That works great for a blog, but may not be appropriate for all types of content.

Here's how to remove authoring information:

  1. From the black admin menu, navigate to structure > content types > the content type (e.g. admin/structure/types/manage/<the content type>)
  2. On the Edit page, scroll toward the bottom of the page to the horizontal tabs.
  3. Select the Display settings vertical tab
  4. Uncheck the box next to Display author and date information
  5. Select Save content type
