By default, Drupal displays author and date for each node (e.g. "Submitted by Caryl J Westerberg on October 17, 2013 - 8:43 am"). That works great for a blog, but may not be appropriate for all types of content.
Here's how to remove authoring information:
- From the black admin menu, navigate to structure > content types > the content type (e.g. admin/structure/types/manage/<the content type>)
- On the Edit page, scroll toward the bottom of the page to the horizontal tabs.
- Select the Display settings vertical tab
- Uncheck the box next to Display author and date information
- Select Save content type
